Football enthusiasts turned up in large
numbers on December 7, 2014 at Ol-Moran Football Stadium, Laikipia West to
witness the final of Sipili/Ol-Moran Member of County Assembly (MCA) football
tournament.
Super eleven and Charlton FC fans
arrived in Ol-Moran in style as a convoy of hired vehicles ferried more than
one hundred and fifty (150) football supporters from Sipili. The fans arrived
in Ol-Moran singing praise songs and blowing vuvuzelas. The Ol-Moran MCA had hired the vehicles to ferry Sipili
football fans.

The tournament had been organized to
avoid idleness among the youths in Sipili/Ol-Moran ward, increase
competitiveness among soccer clubs in Sipili/Ol-Moran, to identify and develop
soccer talents in Sipili/Ol-Moran and to promote club development in the ward.
The tournament was sponsored by Ol-moran Member of County Assembly.
Four teams participated namely: Ol-Moran
FC, Nagum FC, Charlton United and Super eleven FC. The final was between Chalton
United and Super eleven FC. Charlton FC had earlier on defeated Ol-Moran FC
while Super eleven had defeated Nagum FC. Super eleven FC emerged victorious
after penalty shootout.
Speaking during the prize giving
ceremony, Ol-Moran Member of County Assembly Hon Duncan Ndegwa said that he was
impressed by the quality of the tournament. He urged the teams to continue
training in order to improve during the next tournament and also to be able to
participate in Laikipia County Governor Football Tournament.
“Sipili home teams will play a
friendly during Jamhuri day at Sipili Football Stadium. We expect to start a
volley ball tournament in January so I urge youths to start registering their
volley ball teams, “said Hon Ndegwa.
He said that he was impressed by the
level of sportsmanship portrayed by the football players as well as the
supporters. He urged the youths to continue showing the same level of
enthusiasm and for caring for their fellow youths.

Super eleven FC was issued with a
trophy, football kits as well as five thousand Kenya Shillings (5,000) for
winning the tournament. Charlton FC who were the runners up received three thousand
Kenya shillings (3,000), Ol-Moran FC received Ksh 1,000 while Nagum FC received
Ksh 1,000 and football kits.
“It is clear that the standards of
football in this ward have really improved. We are happy that our MCA has been
at the fore front of promoting sports in the ward,” said John Chege, one of the
football supporters who travelled from Sipili to cheer Super eleven.
Similarly, Francis Munyiri concurred
with his sentiments. He noted that most youths are now spending their time
engaging in sports instead of idling.
“I was confident that super eleven
would win the league and I have been proven right. The MCA has really engaged
youths through sports. This is something that we support as youths and we will
always appreciate such initiatives,” said Munyiri.
The MCA has called upon teams to
start registering for the next tournament which will start in January 2015. So
far the MCA has spent more than Ksh 120,000 in organizing the football tournaments.
